Hagerstown Rescue Continued

On Saturday, August 16th at 12:30pm, Barbara Clay and Jade Steelman arrived in Wolfsville, Maryland. Their meeting with the caregiver of the following ferrets was the result of a collaborative effort by Lisa Leidig, of Ferret Haven By The Sea, Gail Elsey, of Scales and Tails, and FOTH Ferrets.

An offer of $20 was made and accepted by Danielle Kline. 18 ferrets were purchased by Rocky's Ferret Rescue and Shelter. The following is a photo essay of the conditions of these ferrets. These ferrets had come from the Hagerstown Ferret Rescue just 3 weeks and others, 1 week earlier. It was with broken heart, that Barb and Jade were denied the purchase approximately 8 others.

A momma and her 5 kits with an upside down food bowl whose contents are now on the floor, within smelling distance but unreachable and among the other filth on the floor of the shed.
Momma trying to squeeze between the filthy bars. Her eyes say it all.
Momma and her 5 kits, eyes recently opened, standing on the rusted wire floor above enough food to fill their empty bowls multiple times.
An above view from one of the cages. Insulation, wires, and debri on the floor, one dirty towel crunched in the corner, a spilled litterbox, and a maggot-filled food bowl.
A better look at the wet, urine-soaked towel, food bowl filled with Deli-Cat, and sideways shoebox.
This baby was begging for our attention
Mom was hoping that we were coming to feed her and her babies.....notice no flooring, all feces fell onto the litter below.
Barren cage, except for the jills that were up against the other wall begging for our attention.
The largest cage, with a display of feces that had digested bedding throughout it.
Upside down food bowl, filthy water bowl with maggots crawling all over it
Filthy cage with ferret huddled under the wet bedding
Flying insect strips, filthy floor....there was nothing in place for these ferrets to find safe harbor in their cages in this shed.
5 week old kit, sucking on an empty water bottle, while sibling rummaged in litter box for pieces of anything to eat.

The ferrets are in need of ADV testing, vaccinations against rabies and distemper, and spaying/neutering. This should cost several thousand dollars. If you can help, please do. Send all paypal donations to Rocky's here, or via postal mail to:
